Angela Davis to visit Detroit
Angela Davis is scheduled to speak in Detroit, Oct. 24. The political activist, author, scholar and former Black Panther will be the featured speaker at a rally for the Nov. 6 elections, according to event organizers.
Davis is an outspoken advocate who has written several books on race, gender, class, conservatism and imprisonment. She has criticized the criminalization of Black people and the prison industrial complex, saying she considers herself an “abolitionist” rather than a reformer.
She is expected to address issues of voter participation, collective bargaining, activism and institutional injustice.
Davis will appear Oct. 24, 7-10 p.m. at Fellowship Chapel, 7700 W. Outer Drive in Detroit. Reception to follow.
