Cass Tech, East Village win PSL divisional titles

DETROIT — The playoff games for this weekend’s Detroit Public School playoffs have been set. Cass Tech (5-0, 6-1) won the PSL West Crown while East English Prep Academy (5-0, 6-1) won the PSL East. Both the Technicians and the Bulldogs will be the number one seeds heading into this Friday’s matchups.
Cass Tech had no problems with Mumford as the Technicians clobbered the Mustangs 49-0 in a game played at Renaissance Oct. 5. Gary Hosey (18-yard run) and Jourdan Lewis (20-yard run, 60-yard punt return) were the main sparks for the Technicians.
King (3-2, 4-3) earned second place outright in the PSL East Oct. 5 as the Crusaders sunk Denby 61-25. The Crusaders had a strong running game from Jerod Taylor. King will face Cass Tech in a semi-final game Oct. 12 at Northwestern.
East English ran through Pershing last Friday as the Bulldogs baked the Doughboys 49-0. Nate Boulware (two touchdown runs), Jouwann Greene (two touchdown runs) and Khalil Hill (30-yard touchdown pass) carried the Bulldogs into the playoffs.
Cody (4-1, 5-2) took second place in the PSL West. The Comets had no problems manhandling University Prep 55-0. DeMarco Gulley threw one touchdown pass and scored twice while Eddie Fluker had a 97-yard run. Cody will face East English on Oct. 13 in the other PSL semi-final match up at Northwestern.
In other PSL games of interest, Western International (3-4, 3-2) won an exciting PSL West contest at Henry Ford, edging the Trojans 12-6. Romello Ross scored for the Cowboys on a 35-yard run in the third quarter and Dontae Clark scored off a counter play from the 37 yard line in the fourth quarter. Henry Ford cut Western’s lead to 12-6 on a 40-yard touchdown pass from DeAndre Smith to Wesley Jackson. With 1:11 left to go, Jontae Wiley sealed the win for the Cowboys by intercepting a pass. Harry Anderson III led the Cowboys on defense with eight tackles and two sacks. Wesley Jackson and John Jones each recovered a fumble for Western. The Trojans dropped to 2-3, 2-5.
In the PSL East, Kalvin Hall scored two touchdowns as Central (4-3, 3-3) blanked Osborn 42-0. Defensively, Rick Green had 17 tackles and one blocked punt for the winning Trailblazers. Terrance Barksdale also shined for Central on defense with four sacks while recovering two fumbles.
