Cass Tech rolls over Renaissance, 44-0

DETROIT — The alleged showdown between Cass Tech and Renaissance was anything but as sophomore quarterback Jayru Campbell threw four touchdown passes as the Technicians routed the Phoenix 44-0 in front of their home crowd Sept. 7.
The win puts Cass Tech at 3-0 on the season, 2-0 in the PSL West, while Renaissance slips to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the PSL West.
Campbel threw two of his touchdown passes to Jourdan Lewis and one each to Damon Webb and DeQuan Tate. Tate also returned an interception 45 yards for another score.
In other PSL West action, Cody (2-1, 2-0) clobbered Mumford 48-0 on the back of quarterback DeMarco Gulley, who ran for two touchdowns and threw two more, including a 40-yard pass to Keyshawn Bell. Gulley was 10-for-18 passing with 175 yards. Eli-Kevin Phillips had 120 yards rushing and one touchdown. The Mustangs are winless at 0-1, 03.
Key games this week in the PSL West will be Cass Tech versus Cody at Northwestern and Mumford against Western International at Southwestern.
In the PSL East, East English continues to lead the division as the Bulldogs (2-1, 2-0) shut out Frederick Douglass 45-0. Quarterback Anton Curtis, who had 200 yards passing, threw for three touchdowns, two of them to Khalil Hill for seven and 40 yards. Khanahl March blocked two punts, returning one for a touchdown. The Hurricanes dropped to 1-2, 1-1.
King (1-2, 1-1) earned their first victory of the year with a 62-6 win over Osborn. Avonte Maddox returned two punts of 55 and 53 yards for touchdowns for the Crusaders. Raymond Mitchell rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns, while Raphael Cornish had 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Key games this week in the PSL East will be King at Southeastern, East English at Denby and Central at Pershing.
