Citizens reflect on holiday season
The holiday season has begun — Thanksgiving, Christmas, Kwanzaa and the New Year. What does this time of year mean to you?
This time of year doesn’t make me feel any better. The holidays really have no meaning. I should say I know what they mean. They, to me, are all just another day. The only good thing about them is that I get to spend more time with my family.

I feel pretty good about this time of year. It allows me to give more; give more to kids. Whatever I’m able to do to meet a need. Each one, reach one. Each one, teach one. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
John Beverly
I don’t practice any of the holidays. I participate in the celebrations. Mostly, I reflect on an old Afrikan tradition: How was this year and how will next year be different? How can I make amends for my transgressions? For me, it is an our-storical perspective. I get joy from reflection.
