CMA’s Jason McCoy signs to swim for Lincoln College
Detroit Public School League
Communication and Media Arts High School acknowledged its first student-athlete to earn a swimming scholarship Monday with a celebration for Jason McCoy in the school library.
McCoy, who competes in the 100 and 200 meter freestyle, signed a letter of intent to swim for Lincoln College, a two-year institution in Lincoln, Ill. He plans to major in history.
“When I visited the school, it just fit me,’’ said McCoy, who posed for pictures with his parents, Sonja and Brent McCoy, Lincoln coach Keith Corbeil, CMA principal Donya Odom, athletic coordinator Kareem Sigler and his Tiger Shark AAU coaches Larry Nunnery and Rubbie McCoy.
CMA’s boys’ swimming program is only two years old, but McCoy, 17, has been swimming competitively since his pre-teen years.
“He’s a very quiet and respectful individual, and he’s very competitive,» Corbeill said of his new recruit. «We expect leadership from him. The main thing is to get his education.”
