Coco: Comedienne serious about empowering sisters

CoCo, quick-witted comedienne and radio personality, is partnering with Sow A Seed, Young Concerned Detroiters and the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries for a May 10 “Salute to Sisterhood.” The event is “a collective effort to educate, empower and pamper 30 women and children who currently reside at the Genesis House II,” organizers say.

Genesis House II provides housing for mothers and their children, and teaches residents additional life skills to ensure their future success.

Coco and her partners will spend the day pampering Genesis House II resident adults with massages and manicures, and treat the children to crafts face-painting and an egg hunt. During each interaction, the volunteers hope to inspire and empower the women they are pampering by sharing and listening.

“I applaud Young Concerned Detroiters in their desire to salute their sisters.  So often, women don’t support other women as we should and it is my pleasure to be a part of such an awesome event and display of sisterhood,” says Coco. “I encourage everyone to support our efforts in any way possible. We are accepting personal hygiene items, gift cards, gift bags, raffle items and of course, monetary donations.  Your partnership and support will make our vision a reality.”
