DETROIT –  The following statement was released this evening by City of Detroit Chief Financial Officer Jim Bonsall regarding racially offensive remarks demeaning African American women and asking if he could “shoot someone in a hoodie” on Angels’ Night:

“I apologize and am sorry for having offended coworkers over comments I made during a recent meeting. Regardless of the outcome of the internal investigation or whether I keep my job as a result of it, it was never my intention to offend anyone.”
The City of Detroit Human Resources Department is currently conducting an internal investigation into Mr. Bonsall’s comments and other allegations made by one of his subordinates. A full report of the investigation’s findings and recommendations by the city’s human resource director will be presented to Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr upon its completion. Mr. Orr says those findings and recommendations will determine whether and what disciplinary actions are warranted against Mr. Bonsall.
