Detroit K-8 students crowned state chess champions

DEARBORN — The Detroit City Chess Club won first place in the K-3 (elementary) section and K-8 (junior high) section at the Michigan State Club Chess Championship, held Nov. 9 at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. This event was sponsored by the Michigan Chess Association.

The DCCC also earned 5th place in both the K-12 (high school) section and the K-5 (elementary) section.

Young people from across the region competed in the tournament including players from Windsor, Ontario and as far away as Lansing, Mich.

The DCCC meets every Friday night at the Detroit Institute of Arts. All are welcome to come and play. The DIA is located on 5200 Woodward Ave. Players can confirm the times of each week’s matches by visiting: www.calendarwiz.com/calendars/calendar.php?crd=dccccalendar&.
