DPSL student athletes attend Negro Leagues Luncheon
DETROIT — Detroit Public Schools League student athletes were among150 local high school baseball players gathered in Comerica Park’s Tiger Club May 30 for the inaugural Negro Leagues Weekend Legacy Luncheon.
The event, which featured several prominent African American figures in Detroit baseball history, was presented by the Detroit Tigers Foundation.
The students listened to panelists describe their experiences and offer advice to the aspiring athletes. The panelists included former Negro Leagues player Ron Teasley, the Tigers’ assistant hitting coach Darnell Coles and third-base coach Dave Clark, as well as FOX Sports Detroit broadcasters Rod Allen and Craig Monroe, also a former Major League Baseball player.
