DETROIT — East Michigan Environmental Action Council will host its Seventh Annual Green Screen Youth Environmental Film Festival on Nov. 9 from 3-6 p.m. The 2013 Green Screen will be held inside the D. Blair Theatre of the Cass Corridor Commons at 4605 Cass Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201.

The afternoon’s theme is “mock-Oscar” party theme. Guests will have the opportunity to walk down a “green carpet” and be interviewed by young journalists. After a “mocktail” reception hour, where food and non-alcoholic drinks will be served, the film viewing will begin in the D. Blair Theater. The first half of the viewing will be a tribute to previous Green Screen winners with a retrospective of past winning films. The second half will focus on 2013 entries.  Afterward, winners of the 2013 Green Screen will be announced.

Green Screen provides a forum where students from across southeast Michigan and beyond showcase short films with environmental themes. The three-to-five-minute short films, created entirely by young artists and aspiring young activists, span a range of environmental and social issues. These films allow young filmmakers to express what they think is most crucial to their health and to the natural environment and what it would take to make the world, their school or neighborhood environmentally healthier.

The 2013 film entries will be judged for cinematic merit, relevance to southeastern Michigan, and creative messaging. The panel of judges consists of independent directors, environmental activists, youth activists and journalists. Now in its seventh year, EMEAC gets statewide inquiries about this exciting event, as well as requests for film-making workshops and demonstrations year round.
