Detroit Eastern Market, Shed #3

On Wednesday, April 10, 2013 beginning at 7:30 a.m., more than 500 of metro Detroit’s most prominent female business and community leaders will gather at the Eastern Market, Shed #3 in Detroit for the 20th annual Women’s Power Breakfast in support of Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeast Michigan. Gleaners has set their goal for the 2013 Women’s Power Breakfast to raise 2 million meals for hungry children.

Honorary Chairs are Eva Tansky Blum, PNC Bank, Joyce Hayes Giles, DTE Energy, Barbara Levin, Community Leader and Donya Redmond, Sodexo. This year’s Event Chairs are Community leaders Cynthia Ford and Karen Mazo.

This year’s event will also recognize Dulcie Rosenfeld, a former board member and long time Gleaners supporter who founded the Women’s Power Breakfast in 1994. Dulcie will be honored for her leadership and commitment to feeding hungry children and families for 20 years.

As part of the 20th anniversary, Gleaners has created a special opportunity to engage metro Detroit’s powerful women with female students from Detroit’s Martin Luther King, Jr. High School. The PowerUP program is focused on leadership, self-empowerment and community service. Mentors and students will interact once a month to share experiences and ideas.

The funds raised from this year’s event benefit Gleaners’ school-based programs, including: SmartBites, Weekend Back Pack and school-based mobile pantry distributions. These programs reach thousands of children each week with the nutritious food they need to grow and thrive.

DTE Energy Foundation, PNC Foundation, and Sodexo are Hunger Champions for the Women’s Power Breakfast campaign. Their generous support will allow Gleaners to match all donations made leading up to April 9, 2013, when Gleaners will host a Double Your Donation Day fundraiser on WJBK-Fox 2.

“ We have a big goals this year, but I’m already so impressed by out region’s women corporate and community leaders, who responding to the call to feed our hungry children,” says W. DeWayne Wells, president of Gleaners. “Dulcie should feel proud that the event she started 20 years ago has grown to have such a tremendous impact on our mission.”
