Franklin-Wright Settlements 132nd Anniversary Celebration
The Detroit Historical Society was the setting for the Dec. 14 Franklin Wright Settlements, Inc. 132nd Anniversary Celebration. The Spirit of Giving Awards saluted the commitment and dedication of five “givers:” U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Stephen Henderson, editor of the Detroit Free Press; Joyce Hayes Giles, DTE foundation; Randy Scott, an educator and nationally renowned saxophonist and Dee Dee Odom, MGM Grand-Detroit director of community affairs.
The Franklin-Wright Settlements was the first such program founded in Michigan (in 1881) and the state’s oldest. Gala proceeds will support after school enrichment — a teen center for junior and high school students and a summer enrichment program which will allow children to keep pace academically.
