Jazz Dance troupe comes to WCCCD

Nationally renowned jazz dance pioneers Giordano Dance Chicago at WCCCD, April 20th

GDC to lecture and offer “Jazz Dance Beat; Then and Now” demonstration
April 18th show free and open to the public

TAYLOR – Now celebrating its landmark 50th anniversary season, the nationally renowned Giordano Dance Chicago (GDC) comes to Wayne County Community College District’s (WCCCD) Heinz C. Prechter Educational and Performing Arts Center, April 20 at 8 p.m. The Educational and Performing Arts Center is located on the WCCCD Downriver Campus at 21000 Northline Road in Taylor.

A special pre-show performance at 7:30 p.m. will feature a special presentation by the Giordano Choreography Project, a set of new works created by GDC and performed by local student dancers from Taylor Dance and Living Arts Youth Dance Ensemble.

Tickets to the performance are $20, with student tickets going for a reduced rate of $10. Group rates are also available.

GDC will also show its  lecture demonstration “Jazz Dance Beat; Then and Now,”  from 1 – 2 p.m., April 18, also at the Heinz C. Prechter Educational and Performing Arts Center.  The lecture is open to the public at no cost.

A Master Class for student dancers will immediately follow the lecture demonstration.  There is no charge for this event  but reservations are required by calling 734.374.3232.

Founded in 1963 in Chicago, the GDC pioneered American jazz dance, captivating audiences around the world with its dynamic performances and the diversity and wide appeal of its repertoire.

The mission of GDC is to create and present new and innovative jazz dance choreography. The troupe has redefined and expanded the definition of jazz dance and brought the art form to audiences and students of all ages and backgrounds, organizers say.

In addition to its work on stage, GDC operates outreach programs and activities to serve a diverse array of underserved communities. Known for its high-energy, high-impact artistry, GDC continues to receive critical and audience acclaim worldwide.
