Juanita Reaves Free Clinic Benefit
Organizers held a golf outing to benefit the Juanita Reaves Free Clinic June 21 at the Pheasant Run Golf Course in Canton.
“(Juanita Reaves Free Clinic) is the anchor for the community and out of that has come other programs such as a farmers market, housing revitalization efforts,” says Tanya Allen, local businesswoman and event founder.
“The clinic has been the catalyst for economic development. The clinic is critical. People come from not just that neighborhood but all over metropolitan Detroit.”
Allen is the CEO of Forever Fresh and believes the clinic, which serves over 3,000 people a year without health insurance, is “one of the best kept secrets in Detroit.”
At this year’s event, Trinity Health Systems announced its gift of $75,000 to the Juanita Reaves Free Clinic. Henry Ford Health Systems and MGM Grand Detroit were also sponsors.
The Juanita Reaves Free Clinic is part of the Joy Southfield Community Development Center. The clinic is named for Juanita Reaves who worked as a nurse at Henry Ford Health Systems.
