The New Day Multi-Purpose Center is a shelter for homeless men located in Southwest Detroit the address is 511 S. Post at W. Fort Street.

Founder & CEO, Bishop Grover L. Wimberly, recognized the need for such a shelter during the late 1970’s. Bishop Wimberly said “as major plants began to close and leave the City of Detroit, I knew that something had to be done to help with the transition of men and families during employment crisis”. Servicing homeless men was an immediate and necessary response to a community and its stability.

The New Day Shelter provides services to help re-educate themselves to prepare for new opportunities. Many of the clients have mental, drinking and drug abuse problems that have to be resolved before they re-enter the new work force. They are counseled on personal and family issues as well as re-trained to enter society.

Primarily sponsored by private and personal donations to the New Day Church of Deliverance, the New Day Shelter depends on its annual Pre-Mother’s Day Fundraiser to raise the majority of funds to maintain its Homeless Shelter and the services offered to men and families. This year’s event will be held Saturday, May 6th at the Pontchatrain Hotel. The cost is $30.00 per ticket and the tickets are tax deductible. Contact Rev. Jeanette Benjamin at 313-554-1990 for additional information.
