PERFECT FIT: First African American coach for Detroit Lions

Commentators within the NFL call new Detroit Lions Coach Jim Caldwell a “perfect fit” for a team that “lacks discipline.”

“Caldwell will bring discipline consistency and accountability to this organization,” one former NFL player turned commentator said.

Caldwell, 59, fit a lot of the criteria Detroit had during its search: someone with head-coaching experience and experience on offense. He was the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens this past season. Caldwell has been a head coach for two other organizations. From 2009 to 2011 with the Colts and from 1993 to 2000 with Wake Forest.

Caldwell, who became the second minority candidate to land a head-coaching job this month, is the Lion’s first African American Coach. He is coach number 26 for the Detroit football organization.
