Property auction to showcase over 20,000 properties in Wayne County

Wayne County Treasurer Raymond Wojtowicz has announced the September 2013 online auction schedule for Wayne County properties. The auction will feature more than 20,000 residential and commercial properties and vacant lots. Bidding will begin as low as $2,000.

“Funds collected from the auction will support mandated services including police and fire protection and schools for our children,” Wojtowicz said. “The auction process is accessible to everyone who wants to participate. It is our hope Michigan residents will buy properties, refurbish dwellings to improve and stabilize neighborhoods and return properties to the tax rolls making a positive impact in the county, the region and the state.”

There is a $35 registration fee as well as a $500 deposit for one property or $5,000 deposit for multiple properties. All funds are returned if bidder is not successful.

State law requires that the minimum bid for properties must include unpaid back taxes, penalties and interest, and the cost of the foreclosure process. Properties purchased at the auction that are not maintained will revert back to the jurisdiction of the  Treasurer’s Office.
