School dilemma

Denise Willingham, Sherry Johnson

The Educational Achievement Authority of Michigan, the new statewide district created to “turn around” the 5 percent lowest-performing schools in the state, is beginning to hold meetings to promote itself. Will you or would you send your child to an EAA school?

It doesn’t really matter what it’s called — DPS, charter, EAA, whatever. I want children to have the best educational experience possible. I’m a product of DPS and received a very good education. My children attended DPS and received good educations. However, I’m not against trying something new if it is in the best interest of the children.

I’m not sending my child to an EAA school. I don’t know what they’re doing because they haven’t told us what they are doing. Nobody in the community knows these people. I happened to see them at the Mack Alive Parade and they do not look like the majority of Detroiters. What’s happening with that? No, I’m not sending my child to school there.
