DETROIT — After being laid off from the bank, Wanda Bynum took a chance. She started her own business. Bynum has owned Spa A Peel for over a year now and her clientele is growing more each week.

Spa A Peel is a fabulous and relaxing studio where a person can come to be pampered. Spa A Peel features services such as massages, facials, manicure, pedicures and much more.

Bynum has been an aesthetician for five years and a licensed manicurist for 12 years. Bynum began her business in the basement of her home.

“I wanted something to reflect peeling the old layers off. That is where I got the name Spa A Peel. I do permanent make up, semi permanent lashes, wax services, massages and facials,” says Bynum. The European Facial is Bynum’s favorite facial to perform and pedicures are her other favorite service. The European Facial is a double cleanse and exfoliation, and blackhead and white head removal

“Once I remove the blackheads and whiteheads, I do a mask,” she says. “Then I perform a neck/shoulder massage. I remove the mask with a toner and moisturizer.”

Bynum’s introductory prices for new clients feature a one-hour massage for $39.95, couples massage for $79.95 and skin care treatment for $29.95. Bynum says she loves being independent and working for herself.

“The biggest challenge as a business owner is keeping employees. Some employees said my prices were too low, but I was trying to be competitive with other businesses,” said Bynum. Bynum’s studio is warm, relaxing and affordable.

Bynum is located on 18916 Grand River at Stahelin. Call 272.PEEL (7335) or visit
